MobileMammo NW
Help us Build the First Mobile Mammography
Program for the South Sound

MobileMammo NW is being established as a WA State nonprofit corporation to promote better health and wellbeing by advancing access to medical imaging services, specifically screening mammography. The TRA Medical Imaging Foundation is the founding member of MobileMammo NW.
GOAL: The goal of MobileMammo NW is to save lives by increasing outreach to underserved communities in the South Sound and promoting access to potentially life-saving technology.
BACKGROUND: The mission of the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation is to promote better health and wellbeing by advancing access to medical imaging services and workforce development opportunities. Its Board of Directors, recognizing a longstanding need for a mobile mammography program in the South Sound, organized a meeting of potential stakeholders in early 2024 to discuss the need, the interest, and the challenges of creating a program. There was an overwhelming vote of community support to create a mobile mammography program for the South Sound. A Steering Committee was formed and is working in partnership with Carol Milgard Breast Center and TRA Medical Imaging, with guidance from the Mobile Healthcare Association, to establish a mobile mammography program for the South Sound.
FINANCIAL: It is our intent to raise $2.5M to support capital costs as well as operating funds for the first two years of operation. Once established a mobile mammography program can break even within the first two years of operation. Ongoing maintenance costs of the coach, insurance, gas, parking, etc. are budgeted, however may also be covered with ongoing donor support.
TIMELINE: The goal is to be operating by early 2026.
The Need
1
Early Detections
Saves Lives
It is a fact that early detection of breast cancer saves lives. Routine cancer screening can detect cancer early and increases the likelihood that treatment will be successful. Mobile mammography facilitates early breast cancer detection in our community and surrounding areas. Rigorous screening and early detection will save lives.
2
Reduce Obstacles for Medically Underserved
Mobile mammography programs reduce many of the obstacles to breast cancer screenings faced by medically underserved women. With the proper due diligence in establishing the market the service can cover its costs but, most importantly, mobile mammography saves lives with early diagnoses.
3
Expand Access for Rural and Urban Screening
Mobile breast cancer screening units expand a healthcare systems’ market further into the community and allows the healthcare system to reach patients it may not otherwise be able to attract. By offering regularly scheduled screenings, in both rural and urban areas, our healthcare systems can better reach the communities in which they serve.
Mobile mammography is no longer a “nice to have” for the South Sound but rather it is a “must have” for our community to help save lives. The benefits of a mobile breast cancer screening program for patients and community are significant.
